Brief History of the College

Mar Narsai Assyrian College is considered a unique educational institution in many aspects. It is the first Assyrian College to be established in the Western World and came into existence as a fulfillment of His Grace, Mar Meelis Zaia's dream.

Only a short time after he was appointed as Bishop of Australia and New Zealand, His Grace could clearly see that the Assyrian language and culture was suffering a great deal because our people were leaving their homeland and becoming citizens of other countries around the world. As a result of this movement and assimilation with other cultures, Assyrians began to lose their identity and His Grace believed that the establishment of a school where Assyrian language and culture were taught would provide a remedy to this problem.

The dream of building an Assyrian school came to fruition when St. Hurmizd Assyrian Primary School was established. However his vision did not stop here. He also envisaged the development of a secondary institution, which became a reality with the establishment of Mar Narsai Assyrian College. In doing this, our beloved Bishop has created history and will be remembered and supported by Assyrians all around the globe now and in the future.

A message from the SCHOOL CHAPLAIN

It is an honour and a blessing to be the first Chaplain of both Assyrian Schools and I would like to thank our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ for making this possible.

The Assyrian Church of the East had many visions that have been fulfilled through our faith and trust in God. One of these visions is the St Hurmizd Assyrian Primary School. By believing in something that we do not see, our faith in God led us to establish this Christian based primary school for our Assyrian community.

Another vision we had was Mar Narsai Assyrian College. This vision became a reality in 2006 when the college opened its doors for the first time. Mar Narsai Assyrian College allows further education for our Assyrian youth and is a great benefit and blessing from our heavenly Father. This will ensure that the Assyrian language will continue to endure.

Our church has been built upon the rock which Jesus Christ himself, without Christ we cannot stand. Our Christian faith and Assyrian language are very important to us. It is our identity and we must continue to pass this belief to our youth who are the next generation and the future of our nation.

As you can see, it is vital that we as faithful Assyrians provide the support needed by our youth which will make this possible. We ask four your continual prayers to help us in building a solid foundation of the Christian faith for our beloved children.

Peace and blessing from our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
